ABOUT
Lucy Nelligan grew up in San Francisco, and was very lucky to be immersed in lots of music there. When I was little, my mom and I stopped by a local taqueria to listen to a local mariachi band every week, and took advantage of free local classical concerts. Seeing people play music in lots of different settings not only inspired me to take lessons, but also helped me to see it as something that could bring people together to transcend our differences. I began taking piano lessons in high school to further understand harmony and playing with others. As a teacher, I aim to find repertoire that resonates with my students, and allows them to incorporate technique with their individual voice as a musician. One of my favorite memories performing was when I got to perform at the International Folk festival at Berklee with a Finnish exchange student. We practiced a lot to be super in sync with each other, and it felt like we were six inches off the ground the whole time. I have toured and performed with a number of groups across the US, including Berklee World strings and the Kronos quartet. I alsoI have also performed at a number of venues and festivals in the Northeast, including Club Passim, Caffe Lena, Grey Fox bluegrass and Freshgrass.
